What’s worse?

Terrorists killing innocent Indians (and foreigners)…

Or Indians justifying the attacks as a legitimate reaction to the Mumbai Riots, Godhra and Babri Masjid?

If violence begets more violence, let us not forget that violence that has been and is being perpetrated over the years: Mumbai 1993, Gujarat 2002 being merely the big events, followed by the everyday terror and humiliation that Muslims are subjected to. Let us remind ourselves that all forces – including secular state institutions and media – have colluded in ‘punishing the guilty of the Mumbai blasts’ while not daring to get the perpetrators of the Mumbai riots to book.

    What’s worse?

No doubt the Indian apologists who sympathize with the terrorists for every action they take. They grow up in India, probably in elite families, have good education and then use whatever they’ve learnt to support our enemies.

How is that not worse than an external enemy who was born to destroy us?

the good news is that no one is ‘born to destroy us’. the bad news is that they are trained to do so in a violent manner by various people with various agenda. i have no quarter towards violence but to treat this as an existential struggle or a religious issue instead of a criminal one is to give the terrorists more importance than they deserve.

the second blog post linked and quoted by akhil takes the wrong attitude towards this tragedy, though everyone does have the right to their own opinions and are not inherently ‘bad’ or ‘worse’ for that. i shouldnt answer rhetorical questions, but in this case there is no doubt that the terrorists are in myriad ways and by orders of magnitude worse than the bloggers since they have actually killed people.

Adi, I agree with you that the terrorist are the worse lot here, but to see there actions being justified is so frustrating, I ended up equating the two.

Both are worse. What’s even worse is the way terrorists placed themselves at a few prime places in Mumbai, as if they were on a city tour, and firing at anyone they came across.

This attack calls for the entire nation to be united. Let us fight against terrorism leaving aside issues like religion.

Both are worse. The communal politics routinely played by BJP, Congress and other parties is no less deadly than what happened in the Bombay.

The only regret is that we cant send our NSG commandos to get rid of our political class.

I completely agree with Liju. Only if we could….

    I wholeheartedly agree with Liju.

That post on Kafila does not even remotely justify the attacks

Coming from a regular contributor on Kafila, your comment does not surprise me one bit.
