In less than one month of being nominated the Republican Candidate for Vice President of the US, Sarah Palin has attracted enough attention to give even the financial crisis in the US a tough competition. Of course, this is not something to be proud of, but is an achievement none the less considering that we are talking about the US of A.
The Internet is full of it. Try searching Reddit or Youtube for ‘sarah palin’ and you’ll know what I am talking about. There’s even a blog dedicated to her. But in my opinion the greatest thing she has said came in an interview with ABC:
GIBSON: What insight into Russian actions, particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of the state give you?
PALIN: They’re our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.
That’s just awesome. And considering that she could replace George Bush, I can foresee Bushisms being replaced by Palinisms within six months from now. What fun that would be! In response to the above quote, one of the netizens uploaded this picture on flickr pointing to the places that “are closer to Russia’s capital… than Sarah Palin’s home town Wasilla, Alaska”. The concern of the poor amreekans is understandable. Nothing has been going right for them over the last few years and nothing positive seems to be in store for the near future.
On another note, Jon Stewart, who presents one of the best talk shows in the US, admitted that he was madly in love with Palin by repeatedly trying to lick her photo. For the full video, click here.
All this activity on the net though reminds me of what happened in India last year: our own presidential ‘elections’ which saw the election of a Sonia Gandhi-bhakt, ghost talker and forced sterlisation supporter Pratibha Patil becoming the first citizen of India. One might say Amreekans would know better than that, but the point is, it cannot get any worse for Palin now and at this rate the tables could well turn in her favour before November.
