How Much for the iPhone?

Price of the iPhone in India is right now the best kept secret in India. Estimations range from 16k to 25 k (for the 8Gb model). It’s certain not to be priced at 8K. the US$ 200 price is only applicable in the US as the network providers are bearing the subsidy of US$ 100. I got a shocker when one my friends informed me that Vodafone had priced the 8Gb model at 27K. So searched the net and found this on Fonearena:

The 8GB model would cost around Rs.15960 and the 16GB model would cost around Rs.19960, both available only on exclusive 2 year contract with Vodafone. No exact details about the launch dates are available as of now.

Just how reliable that information is, I am not sure since they do not provide any source for the information. But 16K sounds good enough, considering that the closest competitors from Nokia and HTC cost a lot more.

Frankly, the delay in launching the iPhone is quite irritating. For Apple to think of India as low cost mobile phone market is quite strange. Agreed, we Indians dig anything that costs less, but hey, we do not mind spending 16k on phones.

Anyway, for the time being, I keenly await its arrival. Till then, I’ll enjoy the company of the iPod Classic I snatched from my cousin today.

Do I smell something burning?

Were you looking for the classic iphone or the iphone 3g?

I heard from many of my friends who got the iphone 3g that its a piece of garbage. There’s really nothing different except that the iphone 3g is costlier. You’re better off with a classic iphone!

@Arul:The Classic iPhone is not officially available in India. It costs around 25k in the gray market. The 3G feature of the new iPhone is not what I am much interested, actually. 😐

If you decide to buy one, plz tell us in advance so that we can keep smelling salts/old chappals/glass of water etc ready at-hand to bring us back from fainting!

BTW, an ‘inside source’ tells me that VF will price it sub-15K 😐
