India ‘Trounce’ Australia by 8 Runs?

How does beating a team by a margin of mere 8 runs amount to trouncing it? Ask Hindustan Times. Here’s a screenshot (the concerned headline is first from the bottom):

India Trounce Australia

Being the smart guys that they are, they have now replaced ‘Trounce’ with ‘Stun’. I can’t even begin to think of what adverb they’d have come up with had India won the match by, say, 100 runs.

BTW, lest I forget, congratulations India for getting one up against the Aussies. One down, three to go!

    Bamboozled? Walloped? Speech-less-i-fied?

On hindsight, a hard-fought victory after two drubbings can be considered a ‘trouncing’…knowing that another one might not come anytime soon 😛

One win makes us go gaga over it.Hard fought win but trouncing..nah.
More wins to come…but for Australia.

Lets see what Webster defines ‘trounce’ as:

: to thrash or punish severely; especially : to defeat decisively

Hmm, by a margin of 8 runs, the Aussies were thrashed/punished “severely”.

BTW good observation. The reporter must have gone berserk and couldn’t find suitable word to express his frustration he has had for the aussies.

At least the english media is a bit reasonable. If you want more fun, watch the news in any regional languages or even hindi channels.

The other day i was watching CNBC Awaaz and there was some news regarding the current series between Aus & India. A few gems…

    * Dhoni ne jam ke kee pitayee australia ke gendbazon ki
    * Dhurandhar dhoni
*Murali Karthik ke jaal mein fasaa australia ke ballebaaz

man…hillarious stuff. when you are depressed, just switch to these cartoons. As for the telugu, tamil, malayalam news channels, the less said the better.

When it comes to hyping up victories and losses of the Cricket team Hindi channels rule! The best among them of course is Star News.

Also, listening to the bored Hindi commentators can be quite an entertainment in itself. I’ll to pen down some of the Hindi commentary from the likes of Yaspal Sharma and Nayan Mongia during the match on Sunday. Will make a good reading, be assured!
