Hyderabad Haleem Review

I have now tasted the Haleem at all the popular outlets in Hyderabad which I had mentioned in my earlier post, except Bawarchi of course but including Shadaab and Paradise (which I missed in the previous post). Nothing much has changed in terms of taste but the quantity at some outlets leaves a lot to be desired. Let me go one by one:

Bahar: Has maintained the spicy taste and quantity. Free cool drink goes well too. Further, it was the only Haleem joint to be open on Ganesh Visarjan day, so a big Thumbs Up to Bahar.

Garden: Spicy as expected and good quantity too although the thickness seems to have gone down. But the taste more than makes up for it.

Pista House: No change. I guess both the recipe and the cook have not changed one bit; good quantity too!

Hy-line: A little disappointing on both quantity and taste fronts. Their used to be a time when Hy-line was my favourite. Not anymore.
Niagara (Chaderghat): In line with Pista House, no change whatsoever in taste and quantity. Remained closed on Ganesh Visarjan day though.

Shadaab: One plate and I was full! This was easily the thickest of them all and with the right amount of spice too.

Paradise: Biggest disappointment of the year! It was bland! Wouldn’t recommend it to any one.

Is Haleem the only thing u like? Come on Biryani is awsome and so is Chikken Tikka, Shawaramas, i can go on for ever…. But i guess the Hyderabadi biryani is much talked about than the Haleem. theres one caterer in Poona, FJ Caterers, I love his biryani, for that matter all dishes are good, daalcha, yakhni pulav and all. But the fact is that his biryani tastes better than Hyderabadi Biryani, Ive never been to HXd, I plan to visit later this month, i guess Ill try it out there and then compare myself, and yes Ill try out Haleem as well !

    Hey assem,

I love biryani, but the thing about haleem is that it’s only available for one month in a year…hence the review and all that stuff. As for the lack of biryani review, I guess that’s ‘coz of the ubiquitous nature of the biryani…it’s just too common in hyd.

And as I said before, Haleem + Biryani makes a great combo…add Kubani ka meetha to it and the perfect dinner is ready.

BTW, I am scared of having ‘hyderabadi biryani’ outside hyderabad. People serve anything in the name of a biryani…forgive me but Pune is no exception.
