Sethusamudram – No More About the Canal
“Is it wrong to say that there is no connection between Lord Ram and Ram Sethu? Are we enemies of Ram?”
“We have lot of epics and books to oppose Lord Ram and there is no need for us to oppose Ram for the Sethusamudram project,”.–DMK Supremo, Karunanidhi
I don’t know what the question was in response to which the statement above was made, but I am fully confused. First you say things like “which engineering college did Ram go to” in the context of the Sethusamudram and follow it up with a statement like this. I interprit this as follows:
We want to oppose Ram, but not in the context of the Sethusamudram because we have a lot of other reasons to oppose him. However, this does not mean that we will not question his existence when referring to the Sethusamudram project. And also, questioning his existence does not mean that we are opposing him.
May be the word ‘oppose’ means something else in Tamil. Like the Hindi saying referring to the toss of a coin goes, Chit bhi meri, pat bhi meri (heads also mine, tails also mine). The DMK needs to confirm whether they actually want to oppose Ram or not…take a firm stand, will you? You are not only screwing-up the meaning of freedom of speech but also playing right in to the hands of the votes-starved BJP.
Is anyone interested in the canal, for god’s sake?!
