Hats off!

…to the Indian Cricket team for leveling the Natwest 7 match ODI series 3-3 at the Oval. This was easily one of the best victories India has achieved with their back to the wall. Whether this match attains an ‘unforgettable’ tag will depend on what happens at Lord’s on Saturday.

I would personally rate this just a tad below the Natwest series final of 2002, because that one was a final and was played under great pressure. To come back from 135 for 6 and score 326 was simply outstanding. What made it even more unforgettable was the way in which Yuvraj and Kaif handled the pressure. I don’t remember how many times I have watched the highlights. That match remains a major turning point in the history of Indian Cricket.

Elsewhere, the Indian Hockey Federation Chief, KPS Gill too deserves a ‘Hats off!’, but for a completely different reason. The Indian team has been doing really well at the Asia Cup recently (they beat Sri Lanka by a whopping margin of 20-0) and they have been rewarded by a strangest of strange incentive (if you can call it one) scheme. The IHF has announced a Rs 1000 bonus for every goal scored, but a fine of twice that amount for every one conceded.” Hats off! KPS Gill. If ever there was an example of the apathy of the sports authorities in India this is it.

great comeback by the Indian team and what is more heartening was to see Tendulkar leading the bunch. But still, India’s bowling attack is one of the weakest in the world.

Coming to Gill, he behaved like a real sardar.

Aila! If a Goal is scored against the team, the Goalkeeper is to blame (most often than not!) na! Why fine the entire team??

Also, this cricket victory was good…but don’t raise them to high heavens for that and throw them back into the deep ditches the instant they lose a match!
