Dr Haneef is not a Terrorist

Source: Sydney Morning Herald

After three weeks in the detention centre for being a suspected terrorist, Dr Haneef, has finally been declared not a terrorist. The Australian Federal Police (AFP) is directly responsible for the trauma caused to the Indian Doctor. Well, at least they accepted that they screwed up big time in the name of “national security”. Neither could they prove that a Sim card allegedly supplied to Dr Haneef was found in the vehicle used in the attack on Glasgow airport, nor that Dr Haneef lived with the accused during his stay in UK — the charges on which he was arrested.

It remains to be seen when he is able to come back to India where his family eagerly awaits him. I only hope (against hope) that the political parties don’t jump on the opportunity to gain some political mileage out this issue. Just leave him and his family alone.

On a different note, this article on Sydney Morning Herald refers to him as “former terror accused”. Now that’s surely a new term for me. I hope he doesn’t carry it along with him for the rest of his life.

It is good that at last he was released. In the wake of constant terrorist attacks all round the world, the Australian police are not fully at fault. May be they should have conducted the inquiry in a better manner.
