I meant reserved and aloof on the field (when not bowling) and also off it. His best companion(s) off the field are maybe Rahul Dravid and his camera

But yeah, he will have some old hands (Sachin, Saurav, Rahul, VVS et al) in the test team so it will be less difficult to bond as compared to the rather youthful ODI team.

Reserved and aloof? He does not indulge in verbal duels with the batsmen but everyone knows how aggressive a bowler he is. As for commanding respect, you should have seen the reaction of the players in the dressing room when Kumble scored a 100 against England during our last tour.

I am sure the pudding will not be retrograde.

Dada commanded inspiration and respect and he was a fearless and in-your-face player. Which Kumble isn’t. His reservedness and aloofness may be a negativity to his captaincy.

But the proof of the pudding is in the eating…so lets see how he fares on-field

Sidhu is the biggest “gas bag” of India. He’s the same guy who used to fake injury and keep himself away from the bouncy Caribbean and Aussie pitches.

I would have preferred Dhoni to be given the captaincy cos he has managed to handle the groupism so prevalent in the team well. Anyway, Dhoni still has to prove himself in the longer version of the game and being an apprentice to one of the best bowlers should be ok for the time being.

There’s no doubt in my mind that he will play for at least one more year. We are only talking about test cricket here, so this is not an exaggeration.

He might be an average fielder but heis an awesome bowler and above all, a committed cricketer. Was Ganguly ever a good fielder or runner between the wickets? But that did not stop him from becoming India’s best captain.

If he suffers any injury (which lets face it, will be easier at his age!) then poof! goes the arrangement….

Also considering that he’s an average fielder, leading-by-example will not happen on the field! Commitment will be of the highest order but apart from that, it is indeed a retrograde step.
