‘93 Bombay Blasts – It’s over, finally

It took 14 long years to come. Today is the day when all the accused in the ‘93 Bombay Blasts have been sentenced by the TADA court in Mumbai. The case has finished on a rather shocking note for Sanjay Dutt fans though. The actor got 6 years in jail…a little too harsh people might say and I suspect rallies by film personalities in support of him are not far away.

Baljeet Parmar, a reporter with DNA revealed the happenings of 14 years ago when he broke the story.

I received a call from Sanjay Dutt, who said he was shooting in Mauritius, and wanted to know about the police case against him.

I told him that his friends Samir Hingora and Yusuf Nulwala had squealed on him. “Oh my God,” said Dutt, and disconnected. Two hours later he called again, wanting to know about the punishment if he got caught.

I told him. If he surrendered with weapons, he would be charged under the Arms Act and could get bail. But if the police arrested him and recovered the weapons, he could be charged under Tada — without bail.

In case you are wondering who Samir Hingora or Yusuf Nulwala or Samra is, I suggest you get hold of a copy of Black Friday by Syed Hussain Zaidi. It’s a mind boggling account of the events before and after the ‘93 Bombay blasts and a result of extensive research.

Justice delayed is not Justice Denied!

Good. A big personality has got punishment shows that Indian Law is still functioning albeit at snail’s pace.
